We are so pleased that you have decided to participate with us in this project during the week of November 10-17. We hope that this blog will provide a chance for all of us to share our experiences during the weeks leading to the challenge and as we experience this week of trying to live on the food budget of a SNAP recipient, just $31.50 per week, or $1.50 per meal per person. Living on this budget for even a single week should raise all of our awareness about the struggles so many millions of people experience as they live in food insecure households.
Please post your own experiences, ideas, reactions, feelings, recipes, shopping lists, etc. as you join us in this challenge!
Can You Imagine What Hunger Feels Like?
FOLLOW THIS BLOG BY EMAIL by entering your address in the "Follow by Email" text box below on the right.

Please join us by attending one of our hunger events, following our blog as we document our experiences (subscribe by email in the box on the right, subscribe to the blog feed, or check back daily), joining as SNAP Challenge participant and blog author, or participating in an alternate way. Let's all learn a little more about what it's like to live solely on food stamps.

I look forward to reading your posts.
ReplyDeleteOther than Rabbis Bennett and Goldstein, who's participating, and how are you guys preparing your budget and meal plan?
On the staff, Rosalie Stein and Debbie Bram are also participating. My whole family is participating (the kids will do the best they can). We've had about 10 congregants tell us that they are participating - and possibly more who are, but who are not "officially" registering. In terms of figuring out a budget, I suggest going to http://www.cbpp.org/cms/index.cfm?fa=view&id=1269 to see what the average SNAP recipient receives based on the size of the person's family.
